The chestnutis found in the regions of Arribes del Duero and Sanabria, particularly in the municipalities of Hermisende and Robledo, and especially around Aliste, in Trabazos and Rábano. The "longal" variety, considered indigenous, is found in this region. Most of the harvest is sold in Galicia and in the province of León, although Portugal and France, where the famous marron glacé is made, tend to be final destinations.
OIL OF ARRIBES
The terraced landscape of the Zamoran Arribes and the microclimate of this region that shares a border with Portugal are closely linked to the olive tree.
Oil made from the manzanilla variety is notable for its characteristic golden-yellow colour, with clean, shiny, green overtones. It has a strong, fruity aroma with touches of green apple and a robust flavour that is persistent and sweet on the palate.
The municipality of Fermoselle has the highest concentration of olive groves, which make the countryside unique in an environment spectacularly marked by the deep narrowing of the river and the original absence of terrazgos, carved over the centuries by human hands.
- The Pardina lentil is grown in the clay soils of Tierra de Campos and Tierra del Pan. These lentils have a smooth skin and brown colour, indicative of it its name, Pardina, and soft, slightly buttery flesh. The area's climate has good conditions to provide adequate humidity for germination during the usual planting period in November, and good bean formation in May, as well as quick and effective drying of the bean in July and August.
- Beans from Benavente y Los Valles: the natural region of Benavente y los Valles is where the legume protected by the PGI Alubia de La Bañeza-León is grown. The protected product includes the beans of the local varieties of Canela, Plancheta, Pinta and Riñon Menudo.
